This course introduces the theory and vocabulary of gender studies and relevant socio-political movements such as the women'92s movement. It investigates how ideas about sex and gender and identities as men, women, and sexual beings are influenced by and manifested in communication behaviors and in the communication channels and messages that permeate society. Key themes include: the fluidity of gender, the gendered body, gender in verbal and non-verbal communication in professional and non-professional settings, and gender-based power and authority.
